Emotionally Naked

Free yourself of personal judgment and shed your insecurity. Strip down to your bare emotions allowing the world to see straight through to your soul. Dance is a journey…a story…and in order to take an audience on your journey and in order for an audience to believe your story you have to get emotionally naked. You have to be vulnerable in order for others to have a genuine connection with your art!

Dance is a reflection of life “live” it authentically!

We were invited to perform in Lemarcus Aldridge’s Charity Basketball Game on November 6, 2011 called Rip City Basketball Classic. Had a blast performing in front of the crowd who definitely got pumped up and enjoyed the show. Hope you do too!

Life Of A Dancer: Meet Paula Metzler

Hello there, I’m Paula Metzler and I am proud to say that I am a dancer!

As cheesy and cliché as it sounds, I love dancing with all my heart and it’s an amazing feeling to let yourself go in dance. Classes, rehearsals and performances are a time for me to be myself with no one else to judge me. My creativity flows in my head and I get to show my idea/story through my body… through movement. Its an unexplainable high and that is why I love dancing and being a dancer.

My passion for dance made me join Urban Arts Dance Company. I took a few classes at a dance convention where Jenelle Yarbrough and many great choreographers were teaching. Thats when she told me about the company. I was 13 at the time and I wanted to set my mind to it. At the age of 15, my family allowed me to audition…I did….and I made it!! I am so happy I joined this company, its basically my second family! (: I have been in UA for only one year and I’ve gotta say, I have never felt this happy and inspired in my life. Every dancer in this company is so creative, talented and unique and to share a room with all of this love is the best.

As great as it is, you still have to work hard. Hard work is so important and you grow so much as a dancer if you push through every challenging piece you acquire. It’s beyond “worth it” though. This year is my second year being part of Urban Arts Dance Company and I am so motivated to become a better dancer each class, each piece, each performance! More great memories to be made, more laughs, more tears and more sweat (: can’t wait!

Life Of A Dancer: Meet Lyndsi Zapata

Hi everyone, I hope you’re all having a lovely Tuesday!

My name is Lyndsi Zapata, and I’m about to start my second season as a dancer for Urban Arts Dance Company! I’m an 18 year old senior, cross enrolled at Lincoln and Jefferson High School. I’ve been dancing ever since the age of three, but finally realized my passion for dance was a part of my future, and in turn took my training to a more serious level after 8th grade.

Dance has given me a priceless gift of escape, it’s a release and a challenge all at the same time.  I can’t believe a year has come and gone so fast. It was this time last year I auditioned, and I remember I didn’t have much confidence, so it was a huge surprise that I made it. Sometimes I wonder what would’ve happened if I didn’t. Urban Arts Dance Company has given me an opportunity to challenge myself in a professional environment.

And so it begins, tomorrow we have our first rehearsal and I can’t wait to be dancing with everyone, it’s been too long. This is about to be a year to remember, can’t wait!
